AoE grinding is a simple process that involves the Mage drawing lots of mobs near to it, and then propelling a series of spells and attacks to kill them. The trick to AoE is making sure the Mage endures it without too much harm. Since Mages have damage spells like Cone of Cold, Blastwave, and Arcane Explosion at their disposal, they are the best class of character for killing mobs with AoE spells. If you're looking to grind out some easy gold, then head to Silithus. There are lots of humanoid mobs in the region, and they are known to make better drops, and they tend to drop rune cloth quite often.
You should easily be able to kill a few rounds of humanoids, and then carry all the goods you get to the AH. It should be pretty easy to sell your items for some decent gold, especially the rune cloth. Whatever you have leftover, you can always sell to a vendor for a few gold.
Shadowmoon Valley is also a good place to visit. It's great for a level 70 Mage to grind out some big-time gold! When you get there, head to the Ruins of Karabor, and look for Demon Hunter Supplicants. There are about 15 to 20 of them, and they shouldn't be too difficult to find because they're all together. They, too, are level 70, but don't fret about it; they're training with each other so they aren't at full health.
These mobs spawn very quickly, but, if you are good at kiting, you should do just fine. They are mostly melee fighters, so, it shouldn't be too hard for you to do a lot of damage to them before they even get to you. You have to be cautious when looting the pile of bodies because they might spawn on you. It would be best if you try to pull them a short distance away from where you found them to be on the safe side. Then, loot away!
You should pick up some silver from each mob, quite a few greens, and lots of Scryer rep items. Other than players performing quests, there's no reason for anyone else to be around, so you don't have to worry about much competition. So, you know what that means... a whole lot of gold for all for you!
A truly rare and highly valued drop to go after is the Disgusting Oozeling. It's a pet that drops off the Tainted Ooze in Felwood. Normally it will take you about 15 to 20 kills before it will drop a single bag. And, even then, you still have some grinding to do. It takes between 10 and 15 bags before you'll get a drop of just one of the disgusting oozelings. Despite the work it takes to get it, you'll be treated with a high amount of gold when you sell it.
Take into consideration the time it takes to run to the next mob, and how much time you take to sit for a drink or to chat with friends. You should always try to chain-cast your spells, too. Be sure to watch your downtime when you're out grinding for WoW gold. If you aren't careful, downtime can cause your hourly gold rate to drop.
